Madison Eyes Office 2009
At Madison Eyes we are a group dedicated to the delivery of the highest eye health and vision care possible. There are currently 11 individuals in our group. We consist of two optometric physicians, three licensed ophthalmic dispensers (opticians), Sharon Scribner, our office manager, and five optometric technicians. Between us we have about 90 years of experience in the field of optometry and speak six languages (English, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Russian, and Hebrew). While we have seen and treated most eye and vision problems many times, we aim to treat each patient as an individual and to customize our care to each person’s needs and desires.
Dr. Paul Naftali and Dr. Jim Lacotte are our optometric physicians. We believe that our patients find our doctors not only to be knowledgeable and skilled at the technical aspects of eye care, but also to be empathetic and caring. Please refer to our “Patient Reviews.”

Dr. Paul Naftali
Dr. Naftali is a graduate of Duke University. He completed his professional training at the University of California at Berkeley in 1989 graduating 2nd in his class. He performed an optional additional year of residency at a unique combined program between the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (now Salus University) and Hahnemann University Hospital Department of Ophthalmology in Philadelphia from 1989-90. Dr. Naftali has 20 years of practice experience; he has developed strong interests in the treatment of glaucoma and macular degeneration due to his own family history. He also has stayed tuned in to developments related to the prevention of myopia (nearsightedness) progression, and the latest methods of contact lens correction for vision correction.

Dr. Lacotte
Dr. Lacotte is a graduate of Drew University. He completed his professional training at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (now Salus University). Dr. Lacotte has a particular interest in the use of bifocal/multifocal contact lenses as well as CRT (myopia) corrective contact lenses. Dr. Lacotte has also become very familiar with the newest developments in ophthalmic (eye glass) lens technologies to enhance vision correction and to minimize problems frequently encountered in today’s computer heavy work environment.
Sharon Scribner, our office manager, has been a cornerstone of the practice for more than 11 years. Sharon is our expert on health and vision insurance eligibility and submissions. Sharon is your “go to” person if you have a question what you are covered for and how it needs to be submitted. Of course, insurance is just one area (perhaps not the most fun one) that fills up Sharon’s day. Sharon can answer nearly any non-technical medical question you might have.

Madison Eyes Office Staff
Our three licensed ophthalmic dispensers (opticians), Helen Krug, Lisbeth Gutierrez, and Yan Schwartzman are here to help guide you to your best choices in frames and ophthalmic lenses. Helen has a devoted following of eyeglass wearers. Helen has a knack for getting to know people; their desires and needs, with incisive questions that allow her to lead patients to finding what works for them, but without her would never have considered. Helen is a proponent of the new digital ophthalmic lenses that take advantage of computerized lathing that bring the technology of ophthalmic lenses into the contemporary era. Lisbeth is warm and detailed oriented. Lisbeth is particularly skilled at picking out sunglasses for patients. Lisbeth is also bilingual in English and Spanish. Yan Schwartzman is a part-time optician for us. Yan is very tuned into the latest frame styles from Europe. Yan speaks English, Russian, and Hebrew.
Our technicians share multiple responsibilities in the practice. In addition to performing the incoming computerized patient testing, the opticians handle the nuts and bolts that make the practice run. Nicole Murin is our most experienced optometric assistant. Nicole has been in the practice for more than eight years. Nicole also works the front desk when she is not working as a technician. Barbara Topor has learned the ropes very quickly over the last four years. Barbara is also going to school to become an optician. Barbara supports the opticians when she is not working as a technician. Barbara speaks English and Polish. Jennifer Sipe is a very hard working full-time student at Drew University and more than part-time optometric technician in the practice. Jenny has more than two years of experience. Our newest technicians are Deanna Gencarelli and Sean McGlory. Deanna, who speaks Italian, and Sean, who is very into ice hockey, are both industrious college students.
